An Act relative to the charter of the town of Orleans.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Chapter 4 of the charter of the town of Orleans which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out clause 4-4-1 and inserting in place thereof the following clause:-
4-4-1 Subject to the approval of the Board of Selectmen, the Town Administrator shall appoint on the bases of merit and fitness alone, and except as otherwise is provided by general law, charter or personnel bylaws, may suspend or remove a Town Clerk who need not be a resident, a Town Collector-Treasurer, a Surveyor of Highways; a full time professional assessor who shall not be a member of the Board of Assessors and a Water and Sewer Superintendent. The Town Administrator may also appoint other positions subject to the availability of funds.
