Fallon and Stephen Stat Smith (with the approval of the mayor and city council) for legislation to authorize the Malden traffic commission to establish special speed regulations on certain streets.  Transportation.  [Local Approval Received.]

An Act authorizing the Malden traffic commission to establish special speed regulations on certain streets.
 

              Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

              SECTION 1. Chapter 67 of the Acts of 1947, as amended by Chapter 111 of the Acts of 1952 and Chapter 233 of the Acts of 1980, is hereby further amended by adding as the end of Section 3 the following:

              Notwithstanding the provisions of Chapter 90, Section 18, the Traffic Commission shall have exclusive authority to establish special speed regulations for streets, ways, highways, roads or parkways under the control of the city and shall certify in writing that any such regulation is consistent with the public interests; provided that no such regulation shall be effective until there shall have been erected, at such points as the Commission may designate, upon the ways affected thereby, signs conforming with the standards adopted by the division of highways, setting forth the established speed restrictions and then only during such times as signs are in place.

              SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
