Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 26 of chapter 537 of the acts of 1986 is hereby amended by striking out, in line 3, the word "two" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- four.

SECTION 2. Section 27 of said chapter 537 is hereby amended by striking out, in line 3, the word "eighty-nine" and inserting in place thereof the following word:- ninety-one.

SECTION 3. Section 28 of said chapter 537 is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The chief administrative justice for the district court department of the trial court, in consultation with the district attorneys for Essex and Hampden counties and the committee for public counsel services, shall prepare and file with the clerks of the senate and house of representatives and the house committee on ways and means, an initial report on the implementation of this act, on or before January first, nineteen hundred and eighty-eight; interim reports on said implementation, on or before January first, nineteen hundred and eighty-nine, January first, nineteen hundred and ninety and January first, nineteen hundred and ninety-one; and a final report on said implementation, on or before January first, nineteen hundred and ninety-two.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
