Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Notwithstanding the provisions of any general or special law to the contrary, for the purpose of promoting the public good, the board of regents of higher education is hereby authorized and directed to provide to Michelle Bernard, the surviving child of Paul Bernard, a former fire lieutenant of the fire department of the city of Fall River who died of injuries sustained in the line of duty, tuition cost as provided in section seven E of chapter sixty-nine of the General Laws, to attend the University of Rhode Island to receive her degree in pharmacology.
