Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. For the purpose of promoting the public good, the city of Boston is hereby authorized to provide for the election by a widow of a Boston police officer killed in the line of duty prior to nineteen hundred and forty-nine, of a pension for her life, for as long as she remains unmarried, equal to fifty percent of the compensation said deceased officer would have received had he continued to serve in the position which he held at the time of death; provided, however, that such salary shall be the maximum for his grade even though said deceased officer may not have reached such maximum grade.
SECTION 2. Chapter two hundred and eighteen of the acts of nineteen hundred and seventy-six is hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect as of January first, nineteen hundred and eighty-nine.
