Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. The board of police commissioners of the city of Westfield may appoint such special police officers for the city of Westfield as they deem necessary for the safety and protection of the public.
SECTION 2. Said special police officers shall have the same power to make arrests and to perform other police functions as permanent intermittent police officers of the city of Westfield, and shall be subject to the same training requirements as said permanent intermittent police officers.
SECTION 3. Said special police officers shall be appointed upon the effective date of this act and thereafter annually in the month of January and shall serve for a term of one year, subject to removal by the board of police commissioners. Said special police officers shall be sworn before the city clerk of the city of Westfield, who shall keep a record of all such appointments.
SECTION 4. Special police officers appointed under the provisions of this act shall not be subject to the provisions of chapter thirty-one of the General Laws.
SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
