Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to immediately allow Becker college to grant certain degrees, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 555 of the acts of 1943 is hereby amended by striking out sections 1 and 2 and inserting in place thereof the following two sections:-
Section 1. The name of Becker School of Business Administration and Secretarial Science, a corporation incorporated under the provisions of chapter one hundred and eighty of the General Laws on December fourth, nineteen hundred and forty, is hereby changed to Becker College; provided, however, that such name, when used on the official documents and publications of said College, shall be accompanied by a phrase which will effectively distinguish such institution from a senior college.
Section 2. Said corporation is hereby authorized and empowered to grant to students properly accredited and recommended by its faculty, upon completion of the two-year course in said junior college, the degree of Associate in Science in the following educational fields: liberal arts, business, secretarial science, education, health and animal sciences, technical studies, retailing and human services, environmental studies, law and criminal justice, communications, sports and recreation, travel and tourism, hospitality, and, to offer any and all other courses or programs relating or incidental thereto.
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding the provisions of section thirty of chapter sixty-nine of the General Laws, the authority to provide instruction and grant the degree of Associate in Science provided in section one shall not be subject to the approval of the board of regents of higher education nor shall it give said board any authority, governance, power or control over Becker College under the provisions of said section thirty of said chapter sixty-nine.
