CHAPTER 286 AN ACT RELATIVE TO ASCERTAINING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE RELATIVE TO IMPROVING PUBLIC EDUCATION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

For the purpose of ascertaining the will of the voters relative to improving public education, the state secretary shall cause to be placed on the official ballot to be used at the biennial state election to be held in the year nineteen hundred and ninety-two the following question:- "Shall the general court, in order to support public education, earmark an additional penny on the sales tax to a special fund to be used solely for the improvement of public elementary, secondary, higher education, and adult education in the commonwealth; provided that state and local governments do no decrease their current levels of public education funding, except where enrollment declines "
