Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
Section 1 of chapter 294 of the acts of 1916, as appearing in section 1 of chapter 357 of the acts of 1973, is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following three sentences:- There shall be an unpaid commission, to be known as the Lake Quinsigamond commission, consisting of one person appointed by the county commissioners of the county of Worcester, the chief of police of the city of Worcester, ex officio, one member of the Worcester conservation commission to be appointed by the city manager thereof, one member of the Shrewsbury conservation commission, to be appointed by the moderator of said town, the chief of police, ex officio, of the town of Shrewsbury, and one member of the Grafton conservation commission to be appointed by the moderator of said town, and three members who shall be residential landowning abutters on Lake Quinsigamond and who have demonstrated an interest regarding water quality, fishing, boating and other recreational activities and environmental, wildlife and habitat matters on said lake, who may represent the city of Worcester and the towns of Grafton and Shrewsbury, and shall be appointed by the county commissioners of the county of Worcester. Said county commissioners shall consult with the Lake Quinsigamond Watershed Association and shall appoint said three members from nine names from said communities nominated by the said watershed association who shall be qualified landowners as set forth above. In the event the town of Grafton has not appointed the member as provided for, and the position remains vacant for at least sixty days, the Grafton town manager shall appoint a resident of said town who is an abutting landowner on said lake or if the said town manager fails to so appoint, a lake resident abutter from the town of Shrewsbury or the city of Worcester may be appointed by the said county commissioners, and such appointed member shall serve for a term as provided for in this section.
