Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. Article 7 of the charter of the town of Stoughton which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section twelve of chapter forty-three B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out the first paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-
The annual town meeting shall be held on the first Monday in May. The board of selectmen shall insert all articles into the warrant for the annual town meeting which bear signatures of ten or more registered voters of the town. The annual town meeting warrant shall close to petitioned and budget articles on December thirty-first of the year previous to the annual town meeting. The warrant shall remain open to the board of selectmen until the first Monday in February.
SECTION 2. This act shall be submitted for acceptance to the voters of the town of Stoughton at the annual town election to be held in the year nineteen hundred and ninety or at any regular or special town election to be held thereafter in the form of the following question which shall be placed on the official ballot to be used for the election:-
"Shall an act passed by the general court in the year nineteen hundred and ninety, entitled 'An Act relative to the date of the annual town meeting in the town of Stoughton', be accepted "
If a majority of the votes in answer to said question is in the affirmative, section one of this act shall take full effect, but not otherwise.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
