Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 3 of chapter 143 of the acts of 1949, as most recently amended by chapter 207 of the acts of 1976, is hereby further amended by inserting after the word "office", in lines 3 and 13, in each instance, the words:- other than charter commission members, registrar of voters or assistant registrar of voters.

SECTION 2. Section 5 of said chapter 143 is hereby amended by striking out the second sentence, as amended by chapter 277 of the acts of 1991, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- A town meeting member who removes from the town or who is elected or appointed to any other town office except as a charter commission member, registrar of voters or assistant registrar of voters shall cease to be a town meeting member.
