CHAPTER 87 AN ACT RELATIVE TO CHILDREN BORN OR DIAGNOSED WITH MENTAL RETARDATION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Section 67E of chapter 111 of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:-

Within ten days after the date of birth of any child with mental retardation, or within ten days after any child has been diagnosed as having mental retardation, the hospital wherein such birth or diagnosis has occurred shall report, with the approval of the parents, such mental retardation to the department of mental retardation for the purpose of having said department inform such parents of existing information and support services. The contents of such report shall be solely for the use as described herein and shall not be open to public inspection or constitute a public record.
