Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. The position of chief of police of the town of Provincetown shall be exempt from the provisions of chapter thirty-one of the General Laws.
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding the provisions of section ninety-seven A of chapter forty-one of the General Laws relative to the term of appointment of chief of police, upon the occurrence of a vacancy in the office of chief of police in the town of Provincetown, the town manager with the approval of the board of selectmen of said town is hereby authorized to appoint a chief of police under a contract for a term of years not to exceed five years and subject to all other provisions of said section ninety-seven A. Such appointment shall be made in accordance with the procedures set forth in the town charter.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
