CHAPTER 2 AN ACT RELATIVE TO THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN IN THE TOWN OF DARTMOUTH.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. The board of selectmen of the town of Dartmouth shall consist of five at-large members.

SECTION 2. A member of said board serving on the effective date of this act shall continue to serve for the balance of the term for which he was elected.

SECTION 3. At the first annual town election next following the effective date of this act the voters of said town shall elect three persons to said board. The person receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of three years; the person receiving the second highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of two years; and the person receiving the third highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of one year. A person elected to said board thereafter shall be elected for a term of three years.

SECTION 4. Upon a vacancy in said board of selectmen a special election shall be held within ninety days of such vacancy; provided, however, that if such vacancy occurs less than one hundred and twenty days prior to the annual town election, such special election shall not be held.

SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
