Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of chapter two hundred and thirty of the acts of nineteen hundred and ninety-three or any other general or special law to the contrary, if a vacancy in the office of city councilor elected at large in the city of Beverly occurs in the year nineteen hundred and ninety-four, the city council shall, at its option:
(a) elect, by majority vote, from the qualified voters of the city, a person to fill such vacancy;
(b) order a special election to fill such vacancy with a primary to be held twenty-eight days prior thereto; or
(c) order a special election to fill such vacancy.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
