CHAPTER 34 AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF CHELSEA TO HOLD A SPECIAL CITY ELECTION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provision of any general or special law, ordinance or charter provision to the contrary, there shall be a special election in the city of Chelsea to be held no later than June twenty-eighth, nineteen hundred and ninety-four, for the purpose of submitting to the voters of said city for the expression of their opinion a ballot question prepared by the receiver of said city on the proposed form of governance for said city of Chelsea. The question, as prepared by the receiver, shall be placed on a written or printed ballot, which ballot shall be prepared by the city clerk, and at public expense. The receiver shall cause a copy of the ballot question and a brief summary of the basic provisions pertaining to the proposed form of governance, including the proposed composition and mode of selection of the legislative and executive branches and the school committee to be printed and a copy distributed to each residence of one or more registered voters.

SECTION 2. The votes cast shall be received, sorted, declared and transmitted by the city clerk to the receiver for said city. The receiver shall, pursuant to chapter two hundred of the acts of nineteen hundred and ninety-one and as directed by voters of said city, submit a proposed charter to the general court along with his recommendations.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
