CHAPTER 324 AN ACT FURTHER REGULATING STATE POLICE PROMOTIONAL EXAMS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 26 of chapter 22C of the General Laws, as appearing in the 1994 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out clause (1) and inserting in place thereof the following clause:-

(1) a competitive promotional examination open to all members who have completed not less than one year of service in the next lower rank, or title, or, in the alternative, to have spent at least some time in the next lower rank and to have completed at least ten years of service as a uniformed member prior to the final date for filing applications for such examination;.

SECTION 2. Said section 26 of said chapter 22C, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out the second and third paragraphs and inserting in place thereof the following two paragraphs:-

In ranking members for the purpose of promotion to a title below that of lieutenant, such factors for promotion shall be weighted as follows: written examination, fifteen; and longevity, five.

In ranking members for the purposes of promotion to the title of lieutenant or captain, such factors shall be weighted as follows: written examination, fourteen; longevity, four; oral interview, two.
