Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
The clerk of the city of Melrose shall cause to be placed on the official
ballot to be used at the municipal election to be held in the year 1997 the
following question:-
"Shall the salary of the Mayor be $48,000 per year starting January 1, 1998?
YES NO"

If a majority of the votes in answer to said question is in the affirmative,
then the amendment to Section 2-91 of Division 2 of Article II of Chapter 2
of the revised ordinances of the city of Melrose, passed by the board of
aldermen on October 7, 1996 and approved by the mayor on October 9, 1996,
shall take full effect, but not otherwise.
