Whereas , The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its
purpose, which is to allow forthwith the use of certain new precincts for 2
special state elections, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency
law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1.
Notwithstanding any general or special law to the
contrary, the city
of Lynn and the towns of Marblehead and Swampscott shall use the precincts
established based on the 2000 federal census for voting in the special state
primary to be held on March 26, 2002 and the special state election to be held
on
April 23, 2002 in the First Essex senatorial district.
SECTION 2.
Notwithstanding any general or special law to the
contrary, the city
of Northampton shall use the precincts established based on the 2000 federal
census for voting in the special state primary to be held on March 12, 2002
and
the special state election to be held on April 9, 2002 in the First Hampshire
representative district. The city shall not report the
election results by precinct.
