Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 13D of chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2002 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the
following paragraph:-
A driver education course shall include a motorcycle
awareness program module, as approved by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, to
ensure that new operators of motor vehicles have some knowledge and awareness
of
motorcycles on roadways for the safety of motorcyclists. Two dollars from each
motorcycle registration fee paid under section 34 of chapter 90 shall be used
to fund the cost of the required materials for the motorcycle awareness program
module required by this section.
SECTION 2.
Section 32G of chapter 90 of
the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:-
The licensee shall include in the course of instruction a motorcycle
awareness program module, as approved by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, to
ensure that new operators of motor vehicles have some knowledge and awareness
of
motorcycles on roadways for the safety of motorcyclists. Two dollars from each
motorcycle registration fee paid under section 34 shall fund the cost of the
required materials for the motorcycle awareness program module required by this
section.
SECTION 3.
Section 34 of said chapter 90, as appearing in the 2002
Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the second paragraph and
inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-
Notwithstanding the first paragraph, $2 from each motorcycle registration fee
shall be paid by the registrar or by the person collecting the registration fee
into the General Fund and shall be appropriated solely for the purpose of
promoting and advancing motorcycle safety.
