Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law, rule or regulation to the contrary, the vacancy on the school committee in the city of Lawrence caused by the resignation of 1 of its members, shall be filled at a special election to be held on September 14, 2004. The election shall be for the purpose of filling the vacancy for the balance of the unexpired term.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
