AN ACT EXEMPTING CERTAIN POSITIONS IN THE CITY OF NORTHAMPTON FROM THE CIVIL SERVICE LAW.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, all positions in the city of Northampton that are subject to the civil service provisions of chapter 31 of the General Laws, including those positions in the department of public works and central services department, shall be exempt from said chapter 31.
SECTION 2. Section 1 shall not impair the civil service status of any person holding a position subject to chapter 31 of the General Laws in the city of Northampton on the effective date of this act.
SECTION 3. The parties shall comply with the provisions of the tentative agreement between the city of Northampton and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #98, dated December 22, 2022, with regard to the terms and conditions of the withdrawal of positions from chapter 31 of the General Laws as provided in this act.
SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
