AN ACT RELATIVE TO THE MOHAWK TRAIL REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE HAWLEMONT REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

     Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
     SECTION 1.  Chapter 371 of the acts of 1993 is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 5 and 6, the words “the regional school agreement voted upon prior to July first, nineteen hundred and ninety-three by said towns except where this legislation expressly grants exemptions” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- its regional school district agreement.
     SECTION 2.  Notwithstanding chapter 371 of the acts of 1993 or any other general or special law to the contrary, the Mohawk Trail Regional School District shall continue to operate as a pre-kindergarten to grade 12, inclusive, school district pursuant to the regional agreement approved by the commissioner of elementary and secondary education on August 27, 2015; provided, however, that the district may amend its agreement, in the manner set forth in such agreement, consistent with chapter 71 of the General Laws.
     SECTION 3.  Notwithstanding chapter 371 of the acts of 1993 or any other general or special law to the contrary, the Hawlemont Regional School District shall continue to operate as a pre-kindergarten to grade 6, inclusive, school district pursuant to the regional agreement last approved by the commissioner of elementary and secondary education; provided, however, that the district may amend its agreement, in the manner set forth in such agreement, consistent with chapter 71 of the General Laws.
     SECTION 4.  Notwithstanding section 16B of chapter 71 of the General Laws or any other general or special law to the contrary, the Mohawk Trail Regional School District shall continue to vote on and approve its annual budget using the so-called unit method, described as follows: (i) at least 2/3 of the total number of units shall be required to approve the annual budget; and (ii) a vote of the town meeting for each member town where resident students are entitled to attend school administered by the district for grade levels pre-kindergarten to 12, inclusive, shall be counted as 2 units, while a vote of the town meeting for each other member town shall be counted as 1 unit.
     SECTION 5.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
