AN ACT ESTABLISHING A MEMORIAL BENCH IN POPE JOHN PAUL II PARK IN THE CITY OF BOSTON IN MEMORY OF ROBERT M. “BOBBY” MUDGE.

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to place a bench in Pope John Paul II park in memory of Robert M. “Bobby” Mudge, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

The department of conservation and recreation shall install and maintain a black metal bench in Pope John Paul II park, which is under the care and control of the department and located in the Dorchester section of the city of Boston, in memory of Robert M. “Bobby” Mudge who served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

The bench shall face the Neponset river and be located along a park trail or roadway at the point closest to the Courtland circle neighborhood, which is across the Neponset river in the town of Milton.

The department shall affix to the bench a suitable plaque in accordance with the standards of the department, which shall include the following inscription: “In memory of Robert M. ‘Bobby’ Mudge, a decorated United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a longtime resident of the town of Milton who walked often in Pope John Paul II park and fished nearby in the Neponset river”.
