An Act granting authority over notaries public to the Secretary of State..
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of chapter 222 of the General Laws, or any other general or special law, rule, regulation or executive order to the contrary, the secretary of state shall promulgate rules and regulations for the conduct of notaries public and the performance of their official duties and the enforcement thereof.
SECTION 2. Chapter 222 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 9, the following section:—
Section 9A. A non-attorney notary public who advertises notarial services in a language other than English shall include in the advertisement, notice, letterhead or sign the following prominently displayed in the same language, the statement — I am not an attorney and have no authority to give advice on immigration or other legal matters.
