SECTION 1. Section 108L of chapter 41 of the General Laws is hereby repealed as of July 1, 2011. All regular full time members of the various city and town police departments, uniformed members of the state police, and all state police detectives appointed after July 1, 2009 shall be required to have a baccalaureate degree by July 1, 2012. All such persons appointed thereafter shall be required to have a baccalaureate degree upon appointment. All regular full time members of the various city and town police departments, uniformed members of the state police and state police detectives promoted July 1, 2009 shall be required to have a masters or degree in law by July 1, 2013. All such persons promoted thereafter shall be required to have a masters degree or degree in law upon promotion. The provisions of this section shall not apply to members of the various city and town police departments, uniformed members of the state police and state police detectives in service on July 1, 2009.
