An Act relative to motor vehicles..

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.   Chapter 89 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting, after section 8, the following section:-

Section 8A.  At any intersection on ways, as defined in section 1 of chapter 90, in which vehicular traffic is facing a traffic control signal, the operator of a motor vehicle shall allow enough space between his vehicle and the one in front of him to stop as close as practicable at the entrance to the crosswalk or the near side of the intersections or, if none, then at the entrance to the intersection in obedience to such red or stop signal to prevent gridlock and to provide for the steady flow of perpendicular vehicular traffic through said intersection without hindrance or obstruction.  Any operator who violates the provisions of this paragraph shall be punished by a fine of no less than  $100.
