Be It Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled and by the authority of the same as follows:
Section l.Section l (c) of Chapter l47 of the Acts of 2004, is further amended by adding at the end thereof the following:
Notwithstanding the foregoing, candidates seeking to fill the vacancy in the office of mayor, who at the time of a vacancy, also hold the office of city councillor-at-large, or city councillor elected from a ward, or school committee member or regional school committee member
shall be required to resign from their office of city councillor-at-large, or city councillor elected from a ward, or school committee member or regional school committee member upon having their nomination papers certified for nomination to fill the vacancy in the office of mayor.
Section 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
