SECTION 1. Notwithstanding chapter 43 of the General Laws or any other general or special law to the contrary, the state secretary shall place upon the ballot for the biennial state election in the city of Chicopee in 2010 the following question “Shall the term of office of mayor of the city of Chicopee be increased from 2 years to 4 years?”
If a majority of the votes cast in answer to this question is in the affirmative, the term of office of the mayor of the city of Chicopee shall be increased from 2 years to 4 years beginning with the 2011 regular city election.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
