An Act Relative to the Retirement Benefits of Emergency Medical Technicians..
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Said chapter 32 is hereby further amended by inserting the following new section after section 103:-
Section 103A. (a) Any system other than the state employees’ retirement system and the teachers’ retirement system may, by accepting provisions of this section as hereinafter provided, elect to establish classify all uniformed employees of their municipal or public emergency medical service who are certified at any level as emergency medical technicians by the department of public health in group 4, as such group is defined in section 3 of this chapter, pursuant to this section.
(b) Acceptance of this section shall be by a majority vote of the board of such system, subject to the approval of the legislative body. For the purpose of this section, legislative body’ shall mean, in the case of a city, the city council in accordance with its charter, in the case of a town, the town meeting, in the case of a county, the county retirement board advisory council, in the case of a district, the district members, and, in the case of an authority, the governing body. Acceptance of this subsection shall be considered to have occurred upon the filing of the certification of such vote with the commission. Acceptance of this subsection may not be revoked.
