An Act authorizing the City of Quincy to establish neighborhood speed reduction zones..
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 90, Section 17 or any other general or special law to the contrary, the City of Quincy is hereby authorized to establish by ordinance and posted signage on public ways, under the care and custody of the City, that are functionally classified local roads, neighborhood speed reduction zones which shall be defined as the territory contiguous to which is built up with structures devoted to business, or the territory contiguous to which the dwelling houses are situated at such distances as will average less than one hundred feet between them for a distance of an eighth of a mile or over.
SECTION 2. In any Neighborhood Speed Reduction zone, the City of Quincy may by ordinance and posted signage, under the direction of the Commissioner of Public Works, take such action as may be necessary to reduce vehicular speed to twenty (20) miles per hour.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its passage.
