An Act relative to the transfer of boat registrations between family members.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 3 of chapter 90B of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “number”, in line 58, the following words:-   ; provided, however, that if legal title to, or equitable interest in, the motorboat is transferred to a spouse or to a person related by blood, adoption or marriage, the new owner may request that the certificate of number issued to the previous owner be retained.  Such request shall be made in conjunction with the filing of an application for a certificate of number and fee therefor by the new owner.  If satisfied that the new owner is a spouse or is related by blood, adoption or marriage, the director shall allow the new owner to retain the certificate of number issued to the previous owner upon receipt of the application in approved form and the requisite fee therefor.
