Resolve Special commission independent auto repair industry.
Resolved, RESOLVE PROVIDING FOR AN INVESTIGATION AND STUDY BY A SPECIAL COMMISSION RELATIVE TO THE INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR INDUSTRY.
Resolved, That a special commission to consist of: 2 members of the senate, 1 of whom shall be appointed by the Senate President, 1 by the Senate Minority Leader, 2 members from the House of Representatives, 1 of whom shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House, 1 by the House Minority Leader, the Attorney General or her designee, and 10 persons to be appointed by the Governor, 2 of whom shall be representatives of the New England Service Station and Automotive Association, 2 of whom shall be members of the Massachusetts Auto Dealers Association, 2 of whom shall be representatives of the Auto Manufacturers, 2 of whom shall be representatives of automotive aftermarket parts and tool manufacturing associations, 1 of whom shall be a representative of a consumer advocacy organization, 1 of whom shall be a representative of a small business organization; is hereby established for the purpose of making an investigation and study relative to the ability of independent auto repair businesses to repair automobiles after the expiration of any warranty. The commission’s investigation shall include, but not be limited to: determining, whether independent repair businesses have the ability and means to obtain necessary tools and information to repair automobiles and receive proper education in the repair of such vehicles.
Said commission shall report to the general court the results of its investigation and study, and its recommendations, if any, together with drafts of legislation necessary to carry its recommendations into effect by filing the same with the clerks of the house of representatives and senate who shall forward the same to the joint committee as determined by the house and senate on or before January 31, 2012.
