_______________

An Act relative to determining the mandatory minimum age for school attendance.

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to set a uniform calendar date each year for school attendance, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Section 1B of chapter 69 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking the text in lines 111 to 114, inclusive, and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-

The department of elementary and secondary education shall promulgate regulations setting a uniform calendar date each year for the purpose of determining the mandatory minimum age for school attendance. School committees may allow a waiver for a child not eligible to attend a school as a result of the mandatory minimum age if it is determined to be in the best interest of the child.
