By Mr. Kaufman of Lexington, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 1779) of Jay Kaufman and others for the inclusion of certain roads in the towns of Arlington, Lexington, Lincoln, and Concord in the scenic byway knows as Battle Road.  Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development.

An Act to further define a scenic byway in the towns of Arlington, Lexington, Lincoln, and Concord.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Notwithstanding section 15C of chapter 40 of the General Laws, the several road sections cited herein in Arlington and Concord are hereby designated as a scenic byway in the commonwealth and shall be included within the Battle Road: the Road to Revolutions Scenic Byway, established by chapter 345 of the acts of 2006.

In Arlington, the portion of Massachusetts Avenue from the Cambridge city line to Tufts Street, the portion of Appleton Street from Massachusetts Avenue to Paul Revere Road, and Paul Revere Road.

In Concord, the portion of Lowell Road from Monument Square to Barrett´s Mill Road, the portion of Liberty Street from the Buttrick Mansion to Lowell Road, and the portion of Barrett´s Mill Road from Lowell Road to Barrett´s Farm.

The purpose of the Battle Road: the Road to Revolutions scenic byway designation shall be to recognize, protect and enhance the unique historic, scenic, cultural and recreational resources along the byway, including preservation of the character of the corridor, expansion of economic opportunities, development of balanced tourism and a context in which to evaluate proposed roadway changes. The towns of Arlington, Concord, Lexington and Lincoln shall work in cooperation with the National Park Service to preserve the resources and improve the experience of the byway for both residents and visitors.
