By Mr. Straus of Mattapoisett, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 1851) of William M. Straus and Ann-Margaret Ferrante for legislation to regulate the placement of certain identifing marks on traps used for lobstering.  Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture.

An Act relative to the markings of lobster buoys.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1: Chapter 130 of the Massachusetts General Laws is hereby amended by deleting both the following lines from Section 38:

“, which shall be burned or cut into the surface thereof”

“Before any buoy, pot, trap or lobster car is transferred, sold or given away the owner shall burn or cut the letter ‘T’ into the buoy, pot, trap or lobster car, after his number, to indicate that the buoy, pot, trap or lobster car has been transferred and the new owner shall burn or cut his number into the buoy, pot, trap or lobster car.”
