An Act relative to the taxation of real property.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Clause Third of Section 5 of Chapter 59 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2000 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:

(f) In any city or town which accepts the provisions of this paragraph, real estate owned by or held in trust for private schools of higher learning shall make a payment to each municipality in which the real estate owned by or held in trust by said private schools of higher learning is sited.  The payment shall be in the amount equal to the sum of the property taxes which would otherwise have been payable by private schools of higher learning to municipalities.  Nothing in this section shall preclude the municipality from entering into a host community agreement that provides for benefits to the municipality either monetary or non-monetary.
