An Act protecting against the sale of stolen goods.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Chapter 140 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting the following section:-
Section 207. No pawnbroker, dealer in second hand articles, or other individual or business licensed by a city or town pursuant to sections 54 or 70 of this chapter shall accept an item for pawn or resale unless: (a) the person offering the item for pawn or resale has provided proof of their ownership of the item and (b) the pawnbroker, dealer in second hand articles, or other individual or business has obtained a form of identification identifying the person offering the item for pawn or sale and made a copy of said form of identification. Copies of the form of identification shall be maintained by the pawnbroker, dealer in second hand articles, or other individual or business for a period of 2 years following the purchase of the item or receipt of the item for pawn.
