An Act establishing protocols for cast iron surveys.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Chapter 164 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding after section 116B the following section:-

Section 116C. A winter patrol cast iron survey shall be deployed when any one of the following criteria are present:  (a) there are significant variations in temperature oscillating above and below 32 degrees fahrenheit ; or  (b) when the ambient temperature is forecasted to remain at 32 degrees fahrenheit or lower for 7 or more consecutive days and the system experiences 3 breaks or more per day over 2 successive days; or (c) when the temperature falls below 20 degrees fahrenheit and field verified frost depth conditions of 24 inches or greater exist.

When deployed, the high speed cast iron survey will concentrate on four inch, six inch, and eight inch cast iron mains and areas with historical cast iron breaks.

SECTION 2. Chapter 164 of the General laws, as so appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding after section 143 the following section:-

Section 144. Records of gas company distribution leak surveys shall be retained for 6 years.
