An Act establishing a distinctive registration plate for work zone safety awareness and victim support.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Section 1. Section 2E of Chapter 90 of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding at the end thereof the following paragraph:
(d) The registrar shall furnish, upon application, to the owners of passenger, private, commercial and apportioned motor vehicles distinctive registration plates which shall display on the face a design indicating support for Work Zone Safety. There shall be a fee of not less than $40 dollars for such plates in addition to the established registration fee for said vehicles. Such fee shall be payable at the time of registration of such vehicle and at each renewal thereof. The portion of the total fee remaining after the deduction of costs directly attributable to the issuance of such plates shall be deposited within 90 days of receipt thereof in the Work Zone Safety Fund, the administration, retention, and distribution of which shall be conducted by Construction Industries of Massachusetts. The proceeds of said Fund shall be distributed for work zone safety registration programs and for the benefit of the victims of work zone accidents and their relatives.
Section 2. Section 2F of Chapter 90 of the General Laws is hereby amended in subsection (c) by adding after the words “Cape Cod Baseball League” the following:
Work Zone Safety Fund to support work zone safety education programs and victims of accidents;
