SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, Harry Jennings, chief of the fire department of the town of Great Barrington and Edward G. McCormick, deputy chief of said fire department, may continue to serve in such positions until June 30, 2016, until the date of their retirement or relieved of their duties by the town manager, whichever occurs first, if each is mentally and physically capable of performing the duties of their respective office. The board of selectmen may, at its own expense, require that Harry Jennings or Edward G. McCormick be examined by an impartial physician designated by them to determine such capability. No further deductions shall be made from the regular compensation of Harry Jennings under chapter 32 of the General Laws for any service performed subsequent to July 9, 2013 or for Edward G. McCormick subsequent to February 6, 2012, and upon their retirement, they shall receive a superannuation retirement allowance equal to that to which they would have been entitled had they retired on those dates.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage
