AN ACT EXEMPTING CERTAIN POSITIONS IN THE TOWN OF BURLINGTON FROM THE CIVIL SERVICE LAW.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, all positions in the town of Burlington, including positions in the school department, but excluding uniformed positions within the police and fire departments, shall be exempt from the provisions of chapter 31 of the General Laws.

SECTION 2.  Nothing in this act shall impair the civil service status of an incumbent holding a position described in section 1 on the effective date of this act.  As a result, only newly hired employees shall be excluded from the provisions of said chapter 31, the civil service law.

SECTION 3.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
