An Act increasing the experience and background necessary to operate low pressure processed steam boilers..

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 1 of chapter 146, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 17, after the words “a district engineer inspector” the words: - “who shall be a licensed Massachusetts First Class Engineer; who shall have at least ten (10) years of experience in the practice of the stationary engineering.”

SECTION 2. Section 1 of Chapter 146 as appearing in the 2008 General Laws is herby amended by adding in line 13 after the word “safety” the following words. “The Chief of Inspections Mechanical shall be a First Class Licenses Engineer.”

SECTION 3. Notwithstanding any General or special law or any rule or regulation to the contrary Section 13 of chapter 146, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, after line 7, the following new section:- “All facilities with low pressure processed steam boilers below fifteen (15) pounds involved in the process, production and manufacturing of a product or commodity, or chemicals, shall require periodic attendance as defined in Section 46 of Chapter 146 of the General Laws as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition. Said boilers shall be operated and maintained by a dually licensed First Class Fireman. This license must be renewed every five (5) years and shall require thirty (30) hours of training from an approved school by the department of public safety.

SECTION 4: This act shall not apply to boilers used for agricultural greenhouse purposes.

SECTION 5: This act shall take effect upon passage.
