An Act authorizing the City Clerk of the city of Haverhill to arrange the names of candidates for municipal elective office by random drawing.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Be it enacted, etc. as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 42 of chapter 54 of the general laws, or any other general or special law, rule or regulation to the contrary, the city clerk of the city of Haverhill shall arrange the names of all candidates in a regular or special election for municipal elective offices on ballots under the designation of the office in their order as randmomly drawn by the clerk. The drawing of the names shall be performed on the first day, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays, after certification of the results of a preliminary municipal election, if so held, or, if no preliminary municipal election is held then no later than the first Tuesday of October.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
