An Act relative to oral examinations for learners’ permits to operate motor vehicles.
Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to increase access to learners’ permits to operate motor vehicles, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Section 8B of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:
The registrar shall provide oral examinations to an applicant for a learner’s permit if the applicant provides sufficient evidence of the applicant’s inability to read. The registrar of motor vehicles may promulgate rules and regulations relative to the oral examinations.
