A message from His Excellency the Governor (under Section 8 of Article LXXXIX of the Amendments to the Constitution) recommending legislation relative to establishing a voting precinct in the town of Hingham.  Election Laws.

An Act establishing a voting precinct in the town of Hingham.

 

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to establish a new voting precinct for the citizens of the town of Hingham, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.
 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, precinct 5 of the town of Hingham shall be one precinct for the purpose of forming congressional, representative, senatorial or councilor districts but shall have two polling places for the purposes of voting in a state or municipal election: one polling location shall be located in the Linden Ponds retirement community at 203 Linden Ponds Way, to serve voters residing within Linden Ponds located in the town of Hingham and shall be known as precinct 5A and the other polling location shall be designated by the board of selectmen under section 24 of chapter 54 of the General Laws to serve all others in current precinct 5 which shall be known as precinct 5.

SECTION 2.  The board of registrars of voters and the town clerk shall divide precinct 5 into precincts 5 and 5A as set forth in section 1, and only the names of voters who reside in each shall appear on the voting list for any such precinct.

SECTION 3:  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
