An act relative to cellular phone use in school zones.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 90 of the General laws, as amended in chapter 155 of the acts of 2010, is amended by inserting after Section 13B, the following new section:-
Section 13C. A person, regardless of age, may not use a mobile telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle on a public way in a school zone established by a city or town pursuant to section 2 of chapter 85. This section does not apply to (i) a person using a wireless telephone for emergency purposes, including, but not limited to, law enforcement agency, health care provider, fire department, or other emergency services agency or entity or (ii) a law enforcement officer or operator of an emergency vehicle when performing the officer's or operator's official duties.
