An Act to require heart screening for interscholastic athletes..

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 71 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 57 the following section:-

Section 57A.  (a) The committee, or board of health in those municipalities where school health services are the responsibility of the board of health, shall cause every student in the public schools that participates in an interscholastic athletic program to undergo an electrocardiogram (EKG) test.  The State Board of Education shall determine how often a student must undergo EKG testing.

(b) The State Board of Education shall require the committee, or board of health in those municipalities where school health services are the responsibility of the board of health, to provide the results of a student’s EKG test to the student’s parent or guardian.
