An Act authorizing the city of Pittsfield to prohibit heavy commercial vehicles from travelling on Melbourne Road.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding section 2 of chapter 85 of the General Laws, or any other general or special law to the contrary, the Pittsfield City Council is hereby authorized to prohibit heavy commercial traffic from entering upon or onto Melbourne Road. This prohibition shall not apply to:

(1) commercial vehicles belonging to the City of Pittsfield or operated by or in connection with City departments; or vehicles belonging to or operated by public service corporations, public utility corporations, or private corporations in performance of contractual service to the City or in connection with work required to be done on Melbourne Road;

(2) police or fire department vehicles, ambulances or other emergency vehicles; or

(3) vehicles engaged in collecting or distributing United States Mail.

SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect upon passage.
