In the Year Two Thousand Twelve

An Act relative to the Essex regional retirement system.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding the provisions of section 19A of chapter 34B of the General Laws, the member of the Essex regional retirement system chosen by a weighted vote of the chief executive or chief administrative officers of member towns, units or districts belonging to the Essex regional retirement system shall, at the next scheduled vote immediately following the effective date of this act, be elected for a term of 1 year, but in all subsequent elections thereafter, said member shall be elected for a term of 3 years.

SECTION 2.  Notwithstanding the provisions of said section 19A of said chapter 34B, the member of the Essex regional retirement system elected by a majority of those present and voting at a public meeting of the regional retirement board advisory council shall, at the next scheduled election immediately following the effective date of this act, be elected for a term of 2 years, but in all subsequent elections thereafter shall be elected for a term of 3 years.

SECTION 3.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
